Beautiful Kerinci

Kerinci is one of districts in Jambi Province. Its area is 4200 km² with 300,000 population.  Its capital city is Sungai Penuh, 7-8 hours drive from Padang or 8-10 hours drive from Jambi.  The name ‘Kerinci’ comes from the Tamil language “Kurinci” which means the mountain.

Culture of Kerinci is very unique.  It is a mixture of culture of Minangkabau, Kerinci itself, and Malay.  In Jambi province, Kerinci is the only region that follow traditional Minangkabau Perpatih (matrilineal) culture.  There are more than 30 different language dialects in every village in the district of Kerinci.  Dialect differences are also marked with the cultural differences existing in those villages.
